How does Acupuncture Work?
There is vital life energy that courses through our body. The ancient Chinese called it Q (pronounced chee). Qi can be stimulated on the surface of the body by dozens of channels or meridians that connect hundreds of acupuncture points. These points have specific and powerful effects on many organs and functions of the body, including the mind and spirit.
By the gentle insertion of ultra-fine, sterilized needles, a skilled acupuncturist can direct the flow of qi to strengthen the bodies hormones, organs, blood and nerves, bringing balance and healing. Modern research has confirmed that Acupuncture has a strong effect on stimulating endorphins, serotonin, cortisol, ACTH, and other powerful chemicals that our body naturally produces in order to heal disease and maintain a healthy state. Acupuncture is usually painless and can stimulate profound feelings of relaxation and well-being. Occasionally you may experience a slight prick or sore sensation. Any discomfort is usually very temporary and your practitioner can adjust the treatment to match your tolerance level.
There are several well-known styles or techniques of Acupuncture. This is because Acupuncture is very ancient and developed in China, Japan, Korea, and other Asian countries before becoming popular in Europe and the United States.
The styles of Acupuncture most often utilized in our practice are Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, Five Element Acupuncture, Korean Acupuncture, Ear Acupuncture, Laser Acupuncture. Electro-Acupuncture, and Magnetic Acupuncture. We also utilize moxabustion (infra-red heat therapy), and gwa sha, a traditional Chinese massage treatment, as adjuncts to Acupuncture.

Cupping Treatment
| $35.00 |
An ancient technique has found its place in the modern world of healing. Massage cupping is a modified version of the common practice of cupping therapy, used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and the results that this simple treatment produces are impressive. Through suction and negative pressure, massage cupping releases rigid soft tissue; drain excess fluids and toxins; loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue; and bring blood flow to stagnant skin and muscles.
The therapeutic applications of cupping have been documented through several thousand years of clinical experience. Cupping is used extensively in TCM and has now been adapted for other health-care modalities, including massage therapy and chiropractic. Massage cupping intensifies the therapeutic aspect of traditional cupping and is an effective addition to any spa, healing facility or private practice. The cups are inexpensive, the therapy is fun and result-oriented, and the client response is remarkable.

About Microcurrent and Light Therapies
Electrical energy and light have been used for treating health conditions and pain relief since ancient times. The first use of electrical currents for this purpose has been traced to the ancient Romans who used electrical fish from the Mediterranean Sea to treat gout pain. Even earlier at the eve of the Bronze Age the Chinese used acupuncture needles, which create low electrical discharges when inserted in the body. The ancient Greeks have been known to treat health conditions by bathing patients in filtered light of specific frequencies.
Modern research and technology have allowed the creation of much more precise electro therapeutic tools. Acceptance of electro therapy for pain management started in the 1960s with the development of portable TENS units. Since then, many variations on electrical stimulation have been created, including electric muscle stimulation, interferential, high-volt and microcurrent devices.

How Light Affects The Body
There is a large and growing body of research that reveals that the cells and molecules that make up our bodies respond directly to both electrical and light energy. Here is a quote from the article Exploring the Biology of Phototherapy by James Oschman, PhD
From the biology of the situation, I suggest that the immediate effect of light is on the communications pathways. Specifically, it is proposed that light stimulates the flow of solitons, which are waves of energy and information that travel rapidly through the protein fabric of the body. The flow of solitons opens gates and switches and organizes dynamic living matrix pathways. Cells can then whisper to each other using their own languages. These whisperings orchestrate the repair of traumas of all kinds.
Some Russian researchers have proposed that the protein fabric of the body acts as a fiber-optic system. S. Pankratov projected light on acupuncture points and measured light output from other points along the same meridian, and found that this caused these other points to emit light. He concluded that the meridians are preferential pathways for the transmission of light in the body It is fascinating that other researchers have determined that protein molecules also transmit subtle electrical signals throughout the body, an activity called semi-conduction. The eastern European researcher Albert Szent-Gyorgyi was the first to point out that the molecular structures of the human body are organized enough to support semi-conduction through passing information along chains of what have been called liquid crystals.
Therefore both light energy and subtle electrical energy are transported throughout the body via chains of protein molecules. Our clinical experience confirms that that these two forms of energy stimulation may be administered together, and significantly enhance each others effects.
Color Hunger
The specific effects of each color of light on the body have been documented by researchers such as Dinshah Ghadiali and Peter Mandel. Mandel uses the word information to describe the input of light on the body. In his view, external trauma, toxicity and psychological stresses of the past and present create incoherent information in our bodies. Giving appropriate colored light stimulation is a way to introduce pure information to restore coherence.
We may call the call of the body/mind complex for needed colors color hunger. I have observed many people expressing a strong desire for one of the twelve colors offered by the the Microlight system. As light of that color was applied to points on their body, they have often experienced immediate or delayed beneficial reactions, such as deep relaxation, mental clarity, increased energy or relief of various somatic symptoms.
For example, orange colored light brings the information of activation, joy and release of fresh, new energy to meridians and body areas it is applied to, as well as possessing many specific benefits for relieving spasm and congestion and aiding calcium metabolism. When applied to appropriate acu points, orange light can act as a natural anti-depressant. Blue light, the complementary color to orange, has anti-inflammatory effects on arthritis and burns, and is effective for calming nervous tension and overly charged emotional states. Red light is most activating to blood and energy circulation, and is appropriate for clients with sluggish or cold constitution.
The light spectrum moves from the most warming and activating colors infrared and red to the most cool and relaxing colors violet and ultra violet. Green is the fulcrum or balance point of the spectrum, and so is extensively used for balancing brain and body function and detoxification.
